What you should know!
• NIGHTLIFE
Madrileños love to fiesta! You will find a huge diversity of bars, discos and cafés around the city. Most famous discos are e.g.“La Capital or Joy”. Ask your classmates, teachers and reception for further information about Madrids nightlife.
Getting around
RENFE and Metro serve all of Madrids suburbs. Buses and the high speed trains are most convenient to explore more distant locations.
• METRO
The easiest way to get around Madrid is by metro. A monthly ticket costs about € 40,-. Buy your ticket at almost any metro station and bring your passport or an ID.
• WEATHER
Summers in Madrid are hot and dry. Winters can get quite cold and snowfall is not uncommon.
• FESTIVALS
Madrid has many festivals. The craziest is the festival for Virgen del Carmen.
Every July Madrid´s Vallecas-district organizes a water-fight to celebrate the virgin of Carmen. Dressed as pirates or similar locals and tourists start the water-fight at 5pm.
The crowd shouts "Agua, agua, queremos agua!"(water, water, we want water) and starts the wet-war. The fight lasts until 9pm. After that the party continues until the morning.
• BULLFIGHTS
In arena Las Ventas the bullfight season takes place from March until October. Shows take place on Sundays with tickets starting from € 5,-.
• RASTRO
Madrids most famous outdoor market is a must see. Buy anything from clothes or souvenirs to antique coins and books. Keep an eye on your belongings as muggings are common.
