CLIL – CONTENT & LANGUAGE INTEGRATED LEARNING
This is for teachers who want to learn to teach a school curriculum subject in a foreign language. The course explores the techniques and methodology underlying CLIL.
Content and language integrated learning (CLIL) programs combine teaching content from a particular curriculum area (e.g. science) with the explicit teaching of a target language (e.g. Spanish). There is a focus on the vocabulary and structures required for the additional curriculum area. Content may include all or part of one or more curriculum areas. CLIL has the advantage of addressing the ‘crowded curriculum’ issue as it enables one or more curriculum areas to be taught in and through an additional language, and thereby extends the time on task for language learning. It also works by promoting transverse skills important for learning in the 21st century. This course in addition to formal classroom learning also contains informal/ “insitu” learning in the form of cultural activities as well as international networking opportunities for teachers to mix with other teachers from all over the EU.
This teaching development course has been designed around the objectives of ERASMUS + key action 1 with the aim of increasing the internationalisation and modernisation of schools and the strength of the teaching profession. As a result it also aims to increase the attainment of multilingualism in students through effective teaching with the hope to decrease unemployment and school drop across the EU.
